Summary:

Consolidated Electrical Distributors (CED) is a private company dedicated to providing quality service in the electrical distribution market. Since its establishment in 1957, CED has become a recognized leader in the electrical industry and now has over 600 locations nationwide. CED specializes in electrical consumer goods for residential, commercial, and industrial markets; and, through a uniquely independent business model, has sustained long-term growth. CED is seeking an energetic and talented Intern in our Irving, TX Service Center to work alongside experienced Information Technology (IT) teams to learn select aspects of IT skills in the electrical wholesale industry.

This position assists with various IT projects and tasks to support CED’s software applications. Successful candidates will have an interest in IT systems, software development, instructional/technical writing, and content design. This position will work primarily with CED’s IT Learning Development team and may support other IT teams as needed.

Reports to: Manager of Learning Development - IT Systems

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Authorization to work in the United States (without requiring work authorization sponsorship by CED now or in the future)

  • High School diploma or attending High School

  • Actively pursuing secondary degree or strong interest in Mathematics, Computer Science, Business Management, Economics, Education, Communications, Technical Writing, Statistics or related field

  • Self starter and able to work independently with little supervision as well as with a team of individuals

  • Ability to discreetly handle confidential and sensitive matters

  • Conscientious and dependable

  • Possess excellent verbal and written communications skills.

  • Can interface with employees at various levels in the organization

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite software

  • Detail-oriented and excellent follow through

  • Excellent time-management with the ability to meet tight deadlines

  • Strong customer service orientation

  • Have strong problem-solving skills and attention to detail

  • Understand basic computer systems, networks, and software applications

  • Experience creating Powerpoint presentations, marketing flyers, and training materials.

Working Conditions:

  • This job operates in a professional office environment.

  • P osition will involve both working alone and collaborating as part of a team, both in person and remotely, using collaboration tools.

  • This position may require sitting and working at a computer workstation for extended periods and extensive computer use.

  • Exact conditions will vary based on the intern's current assignment.

Essential Job Functions:

  • Learning aspects of IT functions as they relate to the CED business

  • Communicating – both written and spoken – in English.

  • Perform various duties to support the IT department. These duties could include, but are not necessarily limited to:

    · Assist with written documentation, promotional, and training materials.

    · Assist with systems configuration or administration tasks.

    · Work collaboratively with managers, team members, and others in the IT department.

    · Perform other IT-related or documentation tasks as assigned.
